In March 1904, a group of individual nurses and local nursing school alumnae associations founded the New York County Nurses Association. Founders represented Presbyterian, Mt. Sinai, New York City, German (now Lenox Hill), Roosevelt, Lebanon and New York Infirmary, New York Hospital and St. Luke's. The purpose of the organization was to elevate professional nursing standards. In April that same year, the Association was admitted to membership in the New York State Nurses Association.
NYCRNA works on behalf of professional nurses to promote standards of nursing practice, education and research; supports health and social legislation in the public interest; and represents the nursing profession to the public, other professional groups, and regulatory agencies. The New York Counties Registered Nurses Association (NYCRNA) is the largest and oldest local professional nursing association in the United States. NYCRNA's geographic boundaries include New York, Bronx and Richmond counties (Manhattan, Bronx and Staten Island).

Membership Information
We are a resource center
- We keep you informed on current developments in the healthcare field and issues that affect our practice.
- We work with community organizations to effect positive changes in the delivery of health care.
- We sponsor programs and other events on healthcare issues that affect the profession and the public.
- We prepare and present testimony at local public hearings on issues that relate to nursing and health care.
Interact with nurse colleagues, take an active role in shaping the future of your profession, join committees and special interest groups, attend discounted NYCRNA education programs, vote on policy, bylaws, and other issues.
The New York Counties Registered Nurses Association (NYCRNA), District 13 of the New York State Nurses Association, is the local professional association for registered nurses who live or work in the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island. Any registered professional can be a member! Thousands of nurses have found that NYCRNA membership is a vital part of their professional lives.

District 13 dues are $95 per year ($50 per year for retired nurses; $50 first year dues for newly licensed RNs).
