The Nurses Association of the Counties of Long Island, Inc. (NACLI), founded in 1919, is a membership organization for RNs in Kings, Queens and Nassau counties. As an affiliate of NYSNA, it is designated District 14.
Throughout its rich history, the Association has been a leader in advancing the profession and promoting healthcare for all. NACLI's members are practitioners, educators, administrators, researchers, and entrepreneurs. Membership offers opportunities in professional growth, networking and leadership development.
Through it programs, services and structure, NACLI:
- Promotes nurses' awareness and involvement in health care issues
- Advances ethical practice by and for a culturally diverse population
- Supports the highest standards of nursing practice
- Responds to the changing educational needs of members
- Actively participates in the political process to facilitate the Association's mission
- Promotes nursing as a career
Services and Programs
- Nursing News - NACLIS newsletter contains the most current information on nursing and healthcare issues, upcoming programs and membership news.
- Access to Continuing Education - NACLI challenges and stimulates professional awareness by offering continuing education programs. Diverse topics are determined by NACLIs organization units, questionnaires and professional staff. Many programs offer contact hours.
- SPAN - NACLI was the first site to participate in NYSNAs Statewide Peer Assistance Program, for nurses whose practice is actually or potentially adversely affected by addictive disease. SPAN provides information, prevention strategies, support and linkages to healthcare providers.
- Legislative Programs - NACLI sponsors workshops designed to develop political action skills, receptions that bring nurses and legislators together and forums sponsored by the Public Policy Committee that keep members abreast of relevant issues affecting the profession and healthcare delivery system.
- Awards and Recognition - At an annual Gala, NACLI recognizes members and community leaders who contribute to our mission and goals, and exemplify the distinguishing criteria of each award.
- Advancing the Image of Nursing - NACLIs Board of Directors, staff, and the myriad of NACLI members who volunteer their time and expertise strive to advance nursings image through presentations, participation in professional and community events, publications and appearances in the media.
Committees/Functional Units/Special Interest Groups
All members are invited to consider serving on a committee. Dates, times and locations of meetings are established by each unit:
- Awards/Programs Committee - Develops categories and criteria for awards to be presented, and proposes continuing education topics and programs. Actively seeks recommendations from members for the various awards and recommends awardees to the Board.
- Bylaws Committee - Reviews, evaluates and prepares proposed amendments for approval by the Board of Directors for submission to the voting body. Reviews organizational units rules to insure they are not in conflict with bylaws.
- Editorial Task Force Committee - Coordinates the proof reading process for Nursing News and develops a theme for the newsletter where appropriate. Critiques each edition and makes suggestions on format and design for future issues.
- Finance Committee - Prepares an annual budget. Reviews the financial status of the Association and advises the Board of Directors regarding financial policies.
- Membership Committee - Works to steadily increase the membership of NACLI with an emphasis on expanding participation. Develops new plans of action to communicate the Associations overall activities and programs. Assures that all members feel welcome.
- Public Policy Committee - Studies and evaluates legislation and regulations relevant to nursing and the delivery of health care. Communicates with local, state and national legislators. Informs and educates members on current issues and political action skills and strategies.
- Retired Nurses Special Interest Group - RNSIG is a Special Interest Group consisting of retired Registered Nurses. Since their first meeting in September 2000, they have been working to address such issues as the nursing shortage, decreased enrollment in nursing schools, and issues of particular relevance to retired nurses.
- NACLI PAC - The political action arm of the Nurses Association of the Counties of Long Island, which seeks to work with nurse-friendly candidates for office.
