Council on Continuing Education

This council analyzes CE trends and developments in New York; recommends standards, policies and positions to the Board of Directors and voting body; and disseminates information to members concerning national continuing education review criteria.

The predominant activity of the council is the peer review and approval of continuing education applications submitted for Educational Activities, and approval of continuing education providers. Council activities include:

Council on Ethics and Human Rights

The Council acts with and through the Board of Directors and members to advocate for the protection, promotion and advancement of the ethical and human rights of patients and care providers. Their work is consistent with the philosophy of caring for the whole person within the context of one’s family and environment. It is the Council's mission to keep NYSNA members informed about developments in ethical and human rights needs and assurances, particularly with respect to access to health care, privacy and confidentiality.

Council on Nursing Education

This council monitors and analyzes current trends and issues concerning nursing education in New York State and the nation. The council develops and reviews nursing education standards, policies and positions and makes recommendations to NYSNA's board of directors and voting body. Additionally, the council disseminates information to NYSNA members and others.

Council on Nursing Research

The Council on Nursing Research promotes nursing research through, 1) increasing nursing research visibility; 2) mentoring/networking opportunities for researchers; 3) the access and dissemination of research; 4) collaboration with the Foundation of the New York State Nurses Association on related activities, and 5) working to promote regional and national nursing research activities.

Council on Nursing Practice

The Council on Nursing Practice consists of five members appointed by the Board of Directors and representation from the Rural Health Committee, the HIV/AIDS Advisors, and each of the clinical and functional practice units. The Council addresses practice-related concerns, barriers to quality care and health system issues of mutual concern across specialties and settings. The goals of the Council are to: 1) promote the value, role and effectiveness of the profession of registered nurses, 2) promote a safe workplace environment for RNs and patients and 3) promote ‘best practices.’

Systematically, the Council reviews standards, policies and positions for relevance and makes recommendations for changes to the Board of Directors and/or Voting Body.

NYSNA members may direct their concerns to one of the Council members or to Education, Practice and Research Program staff for deliberation and possible action.
