REPORT: July/August 2006 State legislators up for election this fallAll of the seats in the New York State Legislature will be up for election in November, as well as statewide offices (including Governor), and a seat in the U.S. Senate, now held by Hillary Rodham Clinton. The NYSNA Political Action Committee (NYSNA-PAC) will make recommendations on which candidates should receive NYSNA’s endorsement and support. In general, the PAC trustees try to identify candidates that are supportive of the nursing legislative agenda, are influential in state government, and have been accessible to NYSNA members and lobbyists. Once the NYSNA Board of Directors has approved the endorsements, they will be posted on the NYSNA Web site (www.nysna.org) and listed in the September issue of Report. Some endorsements may be delayed until after the primary election is held on Sept. 12, so please check the Web site for updates. If you have suggestions about candidate endorsements, plan to work on a political campaign, or are interested in volunteering to work on a campaign, please contact the NYSNA Nursing Advocacy and Information (NAI) staff at 800-724-NYRN, ext. 282 or e-mail legislative@nysna.org. |
